Environmentally Friendly Products

In this increasingly globalize and technologically enhanced world, the related threats to our planets environment have become a key issue for politicians, activists and the general public. Mass production and consumption are resulting in the depletion of valuable resources and are widely considered to be active contributors towards the rise in global temperatures. Responses to such problems can take the form of protests, planting trees and joining lobby groups.  However, the strategy that I’m going to focus on  is the consumption of environmentally friendly products.  By altering conventional consumption patterns we can enhance our long-term futures and provide other benefits along the way.

Energy Efficient Products

Small changes such as switching to energy saving light bulbs can reduce energy use and save money over time on electric bills. Although simple, these changes can have a huge cumulative effect. If you are not ready to give up your Hummer yet...you can still lower your carbon foot print. By making a smarter selection of products doesn’t necessarily require a decline in living standards (I understand that not everyone is a hippie at heart like me and wants to sell their home to buy a small farm.) as you research eco friendly products you will see that most are made from the highest quality materials with much higher craftsmanship than you will see from conventional products imported in from china.

When shopping for new cleaning products- instead of buying your usual conventional cleaning products (which are often toxic and damaging to the environment) consider buying green cleaning products.  The eco-friendly cleaning products are made from natural, non-toxic ingredients and usually scented with essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance. Environmentally friendly cleaning products attempt to use as few unnatural additives as possible, which makes them less likely to trigger allergies. Natural cleaning products are almost always child and pet friendly, (unlike traditional cleaners) better for your skin, better for your health overall.

Eco friendly clothing

Hip clothing designers and even large super stores are now making it easier to buy eco friendly clothes.  Organic clothes used to only be available in fine boutiques, however you can buy organic shirts and organic t shirts in Wal-Mart and Target. Most fair trade clothing and sustainable clothing are made from bamboo, hemp or organic cotton fabrics with color grown or non-toxic dyes.  Bamboo clothing and hemp clothing have natural antibacterial properties.

Green bath products

Green your bathroom and grooming routine with environmentally friendly products such as:

-natural deodorant

-organic lotion

-organic soaps

-organic soap

-organic toothpaste

-organic body wash

-Earth Friendly hair products

-natural shampoo

-natural cosmetics

-organic makeup

Most eco-friendly products are biodegradable and responsible eco-friendly packaging in recyclable containers which lowers the amount of trash piling up in our land fills.  Recycling is a key issue these days, and environmentally conscious consumers often avoid using disposable products where possible. This has become just one element of the green lifestyle.

Eco Friendly Home

Turing your home into and eco friendly house over time can be easy. When a major appliance is not working and needs to be replaced, buy energy efficient models.  For example, refrigerators and freezers as well as washing machines, on average use fifty percent more energy per year from their tenth year of usage onwards. New models are far more efficient than their older counterparts.  With all electrical appliances, I’d recommend that you search for energy efficiency ratings, which are available for a number of products. This will save you money eventually and limits your impact on the environment.

Recycle- Full LandfillsI am not advocating filling up landfills with all your perfectly good household items, but simply as things break, wear out or have served their purpose replace them with eco friendly options. Ways to green up your home:
-sustainable, green, eco friendly furniture
-organic bedding and organic sheets
-organic towels
- reusable napkins
-organic, green mattresses
- use green building materials for any new home construction or home improvement projects.

The consequences of a widespread refusal to gradually shift towards eco-friendly buying and lifestyles could be dire. Carbon dioxide levels are consistently rising, ice caps are melting and increased flooding and rising sea levels are apparent. Additionally, rainforests and ecosystems have been substantially damaged. However, there are steps that we can take to offset and perhaps one day reverse these problems. The huge range of environmentally friendly products can help us to tackle these issues head on, and don’t necessarily hinder or lower our standards of life. Such products will no doubt become increasingly familiar in the foreseeable future.
